The UMB Office of Community and Civic Engagement partners with the Community Law Center to provide free monthly nonprofit organization leadership skills workshops to local stakeholders. The workshops are designed to increase capacity of community-based nonprofit organizations and their members to operate and advocate on behalf of Baltimore residents and communities where many advocates lack access to this kind of formal training. Although targeted to West Baltimore stakeholders, the hybrid workshops are open to all who are interested on the third Tuesdays each month, from 5:45-6:45 p.m.

The workshop series began in November and will be offered monthly covering a different topic each month. Remaining topics throughout the year include:

  • Feb. 17: Liquor Board
  • March 17: Tax Time
  • April 21: Budgeting and Financial Oversight
  • May 19: Fundraising
  • June 16: Maintaining and Growing Your Organization
  • July 21: Social Media
  • Aug. 18: Advocacy and Lobbying
  • Sept. 15: Addressing Nuisance and Vacant Properties
  • Oct. 20: Zoning

Register for the workshops, which have been well attended both in person at the UMB Community Engagement Center and online. For more information, contact Brian Sturdivant at bsturdivant@umaryland.edu.
