Administration and Finance held a lottery for staff members as an incentive to encourage COVID-19 vaccination in the division. The winning prize was a year of free parking or approximate cash equivalent for non-parkers.

We asked our staff to have their Centers for Disease Control and Prevention-approved vaccination card uploaded into UMB's SAFE on Campus online system or the Chesapeake Regional Information System for our Patients (CRISP) waiver in the system by July 12.

Those who had an approved exception for receiving the vaccine also were included in the lottery drawing. We appreciate all the staff who participated in the lottery and encourage those who have not gotten vaccinated to do so.

Congratulations to our winners! Some of our winners have graciously shared why they chose to take the vaccine:

David Fultz, Operations and Maintenance: “I researched the COVID-19 vaccines and found all research showed the vaccines were safe and effective. My entire family signed up when it was available to all of us and completed both doses of the vaccine with no issues afterwards.”

Scottie Washington, Department of Public Safety: “I did my own personal research and studies, and I just simply thought it made more sense to get it, from a health standpoint.”

Glosenda Navales, Central Administration Support Services: “I wanted to protect myself and others by getting the vaccine.”

Aisha Ruffin, Environmental Services: “I have an aunt who lives with me and is older. All of the other members in the household were getting vaccinated, and I don’t want to be the reason she gets sick.”

Peter Walther, Operations and Maintenance: “I wanted to do my part to slow down the speed of the virus. As an attempt to not bring home the virus to my family, which was a success.”
