Lea Berman, MA, will speak at UMB on April 8 about the core value of civility.

Berman served as White House social secretary from 2004 to 2007 under the George W. Bush administration. She co-wrote the book Treating People Well: The Extraordinary Power of Civility at Work and in Life, with Jeremy Bernard, the White House social secretary under the Barack Obama administration.

Berman has worked at the Center for Strategic and International Studies at Georgetown University and for the National Republican Senatorial Committee. A married mother of two grown daughters, Berman also ran her own fundraising and event planning business and for five years published a blog titled America's Table, which discussed food, flowers, and formalities.

After her presentation, she will be signing copies of her book, which will be available for sale at $16.
