The UMB CURE Scholars Program is a groundbreaking pipeline program that prepares middle and high school students from West Baltimore for competitive careers in health care and STEM fields. The CURE program takes on a family-style approach, offering social emotional support services as well as community-building events and celebrations year-round.

The CURE Scholars Program is looking for dedicated volunteers to serve on its special events team. The special events team is one of CURE’s five strategic committees and will provide planning and logistical support for several CURE special events, including:

  • Annual STEM Expo (April 2020)
  • Annual Closing Awards Celebration and Mother’s Day Store (May 2020)
  • Annual CURE Welcome Back Event (September 2020)
  • Annual White Coat Induction Ceremony (October 2020)
  • National STEM/STEAM Day (November 2020)
  • Winter Wonderland Mid-Year Celebration and Holiday Store (December 2020)

Note: Events require a team planning window of two to three months.

Planning tasks can include venue management, securing sponsorship for event expenses, working with CURE mentoring coordinators on volunteer management, managing RSVPs of special guests, and marketing and communications tasks.

The special events team members will serve for a minimum of one year, starting in March 2020 (members can stay on longer). Volunteers will attend an initial orientation meeting in late February.

Volunteers will be expected to play a leading role in the annual UMB White Coat Ceremony, plus one other event during the year, at minimum.
