University of Maryland MPowering the State Strategic Partnership Logo

The MPower Professorship Program is a named professorship, accompanied by funding to support the awardee’s salary. The program recognizes, incentivizes, and fosters collaborations between faculty at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) and the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP), who are working on the nation’s most pressing issues that require collaboration between the two institutions to achieve a positive outcome.

Eligibility:

  • Tenured and non-tenured Faculty members at UMB or UMCP at the associate professor rank or higher, who are:
    • Collaborating on an existing strategic research topic that would be unattainable or difficult to achieve by UMB or UMCP acting independent of one another OR
    • Collaborating as part of a proposed strategic research activity funded by the MPowering the State Initiative OR
    • Collaborating as part of a strategic academic or community program funded by the MPowering the State Initiative OR
    • A faculty member who is recruited as part of a joint appointment and hiring process at UMB and UMCP and who is working on strategic topics that advance science, academic or community programs that would be difficult or unattainable without UMB and UMCP acting in collaboration.

Available Funding Level:
Each recognized and appointed MPower Professor is allocated $50,000 per year to apply to their salary or their summer salary, or to support supplemental research activities. These funds are used to recognize, enable, and support strong collaborations between faculty at both institutions.

Process:
Nominations should be sent to Deborah Prout in the Office of the Dean at prout@umaryland.edu by Friday, June 18.
