Globe with lines connecting the continents on a blue background

The University of Maryland, Baltimore's (UMB) Center for Global Engagement is hosting events this fall focused on global leadership:

  • Decolonizing Global Health on Nov. 4 will examine the history of global health and the growing movement to question and dismantle ingrained systems of dominance and power in the work to improve the health of populations. Presented by Carlos A. Faerron Guzmán, MD, MSc, assistant professor of global health at the University of Maryland Graduate School.
  • Leading During an Emergency: The Peace Corps Response to a Global Pandemic on Nov. 16 will examine the huge challenge the Peace Corps faced at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic: bringing all 7,000 volunteers back to the U.S. fast and safely. Hear from Jody Olsen, PhD, MSW, who served as the director of the Peace Corps at the time about this massive evacuation and what it taught her about global leadership.

The events are part of the President's Student Leadership Institute. Students in the PSLI Global Leadership specialization can receive credit for attending, but the events are open to all.
