Law Library's Liz Graham Receives AALL Emerging Leader Award
July 01, 2021The Thurgood Marshall Law Library is pleased to announce that Liz Graham, head of technical services, received the 2020-2021 American Association of Law Libraries (AALL) Emerging Leader Award.
The AALL Emerging Leader Award recognizes members who have made significant contributions to the association and/or to the profession and have demonstrated the potential for leadership and continuing service. Throughout her career, Graham has exhibited many qualities that speak to her effectiveness as a manager, mentor, and leader in the law library field, making her a worthy candidate for this award.
Having worked in academic libraries for over 15 years, Graham has cultivated extensive knowledge in library collection services. She began her career as a student library employee at the University of California, Los Angeles, where she soon realized a passion for law librarianship. Since earning her master’s degree in library and information science in 2011, she has worked at large research institutions in California, Washington, D.C., and the Middle East.
Graham joined the Thurgood Marshall Law Library in 2019, accepting a leadership position that combined her experience in both public and collection services. Realizing her goal is to one day lead a law library, she is currently pursuing a JD at the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law.
Graham is a speaker and presenter at regional and national law librarianship meetings. She also is active in professional organizations, including serving on several committees of the American Association of Law Libraries and as vice president/president-elect of the Law Library Association of Maryland. She was appointed this year to AALL’s IDEA Committee, whose ambitious charge includes making recommendations to the AALL Board about how to most effectively ensure the association’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
As demonstrated by her professional trajectory, Graham has distinguished herself as someone who is recognized by her peers and managers as exceptionally capable and passionate about the future of the profession. The Thurgood Marshall Law Library is very proud of Graham's accomplishments. Congratulations on this well-deserved award!
Graham will be presented with her award and certificate at the next AALL Annual Conference, Leading with Wisdom & Insight, which will be held virtually July 19-23, 2021. With over 5,000 members, AALL is the leading professional association for law librarians and other legal information professionals in the United States.
