Distinguish Yourself as a Maryland AHEC Scholar
June 08, 2021AHEC (Area Health Education Center) Scholars is an interprofessional and innovative national program geared toward health profession students. The program exposes you to interdisciplinary didactic and community-based clinical training in rural and/or underserved areas. Didactic online modules are in six core topic areas: interprofessional education, social determinants of health, behavioral health integration, cultural competency, practice transformation, and current and emerging health issues such as COVID-19.
Applicants must be:
- Enrolled in a health professions degree program (List of Disciplines)
- Two years from degree or program completion
- Committed to two years in the program and a one-time program follow-up
Applicants must complete the following requirements:
- 40 hours, each year, of community-based clinical or experiential training in rural and/or underserved areas; fulfilled by requirements of your degree program
- 40 hours, each year, of didactic education through live webinars and online modules, utilizing Blackboard, completed on student’s own time
