AHEC on a shield

AHEC (Area Health Education Center) Scholars is an interprofessional and innovative national program geared toward health profession students. The program exposes you to interdisciplinary didactic and community-based clinical training in rural and/or underserved areas. Didactic online modules are in six core topic areas: interprofessional education, social determinants of health, behavioral health integration, cultural competency, practice transformation, and current and emerging health issues such as COVID-19.

Applicants must be:

  • Enrolled in a health professions degree program (List of Disciplines)
  • Two years from degree or program completion
  • Committed to two years in the program and a one-time program follow-up

Applicants must complete the following requirements:

  • 40 hours, each year, of community-based clinical or experiential training in rural and/or underserved areas; fulfilled by requirements of your degree program
  • 40 hours, each year, of didactic education through live webinars and online modules, utilizing Blackboard, completed on student’s own time
