Gerard Slobogean

Gerard Slobogean, MD, MPH, FRCSC, associate professor of orthopaedics, has been appointed to the position of director of clinical research for the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.

In this role, Slobogean will help to develop a robust center for clinical research focused on high-quality randomized clinical trials conducted across the breadth of orthopaedic subspecialties that will meaningfully impact patient care worldwide. He will be tasked with securing funding for large multicentered trials and awards to support a broad-based series of clinical investigations that demonstrate our expertise and capacity in these areas.

Additionally, Slobogean will help uphold the department's mission of preparing future generations of investigators (medical students, residents, fellows, and junior faculty) by developing and leading educational programs in clinical research for learners at multiple levels, and to help serve as a their mentor with the goal of helping them to become independently funded.
