Interprofessional Online Elective Course: Intercultural Leadership Competencies for Global Collaboration

In this course, health profession students from the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) and the Bahiana School of Medicine and Public Health (Brazil) will learn about cultural awareness, cross-cultural communication, cross-cultural ethics, global health promotion, relationship building, transcultural evaluation tools, and cross-cultural crisis management.
Overall Goal
The overall goal of this course is to offer an intercultural, interprofessional, and collaborative learning environment where students will be exposed to different perspectives and share their experiences in health care and health promotion in different contexts developing a sense of responsibility as local and global citizens, and understanding how to apply what they will learn in their respective professions as they practice in the local communities and collaborate globally.
Course Schedule
There will be seven synchronous Zoom sessions on Wednesdays from 5-7 p.m. ET on Oct. 20, Oct. 27, Nov. 3, Nov. 10, Nov. 17, Dec. 1, and Dec. 8.
Eligilibility/Aplication
Only students in one of the health profession programs are eligible to enroll in this course (eligibility details available in the application form). Applications must be submitted by Sept. 20. Applicants will be notified by Oct. 5 with a decision on acceptance.
