On March 12, 2020, the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) released a statement addressing how changes in course delivery or clinical practice experiences might affect a program’s accreditation in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. The statement provides guidance to programs that are finding it necessary to examine program delivery as a result of the spread of the virus.

At this time, CCNE is pleased to share that we have partnered with many other associations and organizations focusing on nurse practitioner education and credentialing, and this collaboration has resulted in the endorsement of the Statement Regarding Nurse Practitioner Students and Direct Care Clinical Hours. Signed by 14 organizations (including but not limited to the national nursing education accrediting agencies and nurse practitioner certification organizations), the joint statement is consistent with the guidance CCNE released on March 12, 2020.

We encourage you to share this information with administrators, faculty, clinical coordinators, and other decision-makers at your institution.

We know that the COVID-19 pandemic has caused great concern for nursing students as they look to the future, and we know that you, nursing faculty and administrators, are seeking solutions to help students complete their education and move into practice. The collaborative work of the 14 signatory organizations signifies our commitment to quality in nurse practitioner education as students are prepared to meet the healthcare needs of our population.
