Mask Observation Study Update
March 22, 2021
The University of Maryland, Baltimore, in collaboration with the Maryland Department of Health, and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, has launched a study to observe mask use on and around campus.
Over 60 colleges and universities across the country are participating in this study during the spring semester. Students trained as data collectors are observing people on campus and at off-campus sites frequented by students. During the first four weeks of the study, 97.6 percent wore masks and of those 96 percent wore their mask correctly. The most common mask type observed during the previous weeks was surgical (59.9 percent), followed by cloth masks (37.4 percent).
