Workplace Mediation Service a part of the Center for Dispute Resolution

The Workplace Mediation Service, which launched Sept. 3, is excited to provide mediation services to all UMB employees (staff, faculty, and student employees). UMB leadership decided to offer workplace mediation to complement the dispute resolution services that are available at UMB. The Workplace Mediation Service offers a voluntary and private mediation process to help employees address conflicts.

Mediation is a conversation that is assisted by trained and experienced mediators. Mediation can be helpful for a variety of workplace situations. This includes communication problems, personality or work style clashes, disputes or tensions, and many other workplace conflicts among co-workers, supervisors and direct reports, or committee members. The mediators are staff members of the Center for Dispute Resolution at the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law (C-DRUM).

Mediation is available by referral. Contact one of the UMB referring offices and mention you are interested in mediation:

  • Office of the Ombuds (410-706-8534)
  • Human Resources (410-706-2606)
  • Office of Accountability and Compliance (Title IX) (410-706-2281)
  • General mediation questions? Contact Aisha Samples (410-706-4270)
