President Jarrell Re-Signs the Second Nature Climate Commitment
December 01, 2021University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) President Bruce Jarrell recently re-signed Second Nature's Climate Commitment, which includes statements on carbon neutrality and climate resilience.
With other university presidents and chancellors, Jarrell has repledged UMB's leadership and participation in working to mitigate climate change, with an overarching goal of campus carbon neutrality by 2050. UMB President David Ramsay first signed this commitment (at the time called the American College & University Presidents' Climate Commitment) in 2008, and President Jay Perman signed the Second Nature Climate Commitment in 2015.
UMB’s new Office of Sustainability and Operational Excellence will be launching a Sustainability Strategic Plan in the coming months to guide our work toward carbon neutrality and our vision of a more sustainable campus.
