Promise Heights’ ‘Black Maternal Health Crisis in the US’ Featured by WYPR’s ‘On the Record’
May 20, 2021On May 20, WYPR 88.1 FM's "On the Record" featured Sheilah Kast in conversation with B'more for Healthy Babies Director Stacey Stephens, LCSW-C, and L. Latéy Bradford, MD, PhD, Chief Resident, Family Medicine, University of Maryland Medical Center.
As shared within the WYPR online program notes, "Black women’s risk of dying from infections, high blood pressure, blood clots, and other treatable conditions during and after pregnancy is more than twice the risk of white women."
Latéy Bradford of the University of Maryland’s Family Medicine Clinic says pregnant Black women also confront more health dangers that don’t kill them, but can leave lasting damage. Education and a good income are no protection.
Bradford and Stephens of B’More for Healthy Babies name racism as the cause, and tell us why.
This compelling conversation and the issues and solutions it raised should not be missed, and you can hear the full 30-minute conversation via WYPR "On the Record."
