Promoting Emotional Well-Being for LGBTQ+ Youth
July 19, 2021This course provides an opportunity for youth-serving professionals and other caring adults to learn how best to promote the safety, health, and well-being of LGBTQ+ youth.
In this free online course, participants learn about the current landscape for LGBTQ+ youth; protective factors that improve the well-being of LGBTQ+ youth; and best practice tips for creating a safe environment for LGBTQ+ youth. This course describes the factors that compromise the mental health of LGBTQ+ youth and explores intersectionality and how LGBTQ+ youth with multiple marginalized identities have different experiences and needs. Participants learn strategies for building positive relationships with LGBTQ+ youth and how to create affirming environments for LGBTQ+ youth.
Developed in concert with the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, this resource is supported by the National Quality Improvement Center on Tailored Services, Placement Stability and Permanency for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning, and Two-Spirit Children and Youth in Foster Care (QIC-LGBTQ2S) at the Institute for Innovation and Implementation, University of Maryland School of Social Work.
