Oct. 5: Red Folder training: Assisting Students with Mental Health Crisis
September 26, 2020In honor of World Mental Health Day, we are kicking off Healthy Selfie week Oct. 5 with the UMB Student Counseling Center's Red Folder training to assist students experiencing a mental health crisis.
In a recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention study, one in four young adults between 18 and 24 said they have seriously contemplated suicide during the pandemic. In this training, the UMB community will learn how to assist students who may be experiencing mental health issues.
Led by Jenna Silverman, PhD, a psychologist at the UMB Student Counseling Center, participants will be introduced to a practical tool called the “Assisting Students in Distress Folder.” This folder contains a quick reference guide, as well as information on how to recognize symptoms, respond to classmates, and refer them for therapy or other immediate help.
Faculty and staff will meet via Zoom at 11 a.m. Register here.
Students will meet via Zoom at noon. Register here.
