The SREB-State Doctoral Scholars Program (DSP) aims to increase the number of underrepresented minorities who earn doctorates and choose to become faculty at colleges and universities. It provides fellowships to approximately 100 students each year and serves approximately 1,200 students through the Institution on Teaching and Mentoring each year. Beginning in Fall 2020 the DSP program, in partnership with the Council on Collegiate Education for Nursing (CCEN), will fund six on-year fellowships at $25,000 each to selected underrepresented minority students in the field of nursing. The fellowships will be awarded to fully qualified students, subject to the review of a nursing panel based on the criteria stipulated below.

These scholarships will provide six doctoral students with a year-long  dissertation fellowship stipend, annualized in value at $20,000. In addition to the fellowship stipend, the award includes required attendance to the program’s Institute on Teaching and Mentoring, professional development, and other program benefits and services. DSP will also negotiate with the student’s doctoral-granting institution to cover tuition for the year of the fellowship. The fellowship is intended to free the recipients from working full-time for a year to have time to complete the dissertation unencumbered and to participate in the Institute and other faculty and career development activities.
