Sept. 9: Faculty to Discuss Intersection of Race, Gender, Class, and Voting Rights
August 12, 2020Our Faculty Webinar Series continues Sept. 9 at 5 p.m. with a conversation about the intersection of race, gender, class, and women's suffrage. Professors Taunya Banks, JD, and Paula Monopoli, JD, will discuss the complex history of the struggle for full citizenship, as described in Monopoli's new book, Constitutional Orphan: Gender Equality and the Nineteenth Amendment (Oxford University Press, 2020). Moderated by Associate Dean Peter Danchin, Banks and Monopoli will discuss the connections between the 15th and 19th Amendments, racism within the suffrage movement, and the potential impact of the 19th on voting rights today.
