Sinai Hospital’s Nurse Scholar program is offered twice a year (fall and spring) for senior nursing students who are preparing to graduate and enter the workforce. Students must apply and be accepted in the program. Sinai presents offers contingent upon graduating and passing the NCLEX.  Student loan forgiveness is provided in $10,000 for a two-year work commitment agreement to Sinai. Students must have a current GPA of 3.0 or above to be eligible for a Sinai scholarship.

Deadline for application submission: June 30, 2021

Applicants must submit the following:

  • A resume, plus 2 letters of recommendations; one must be from a clinical instructor.
  • Submit a summary of your personal nursing philosophy and why you chose to become a nurse.
  • Official transcript (may send a copy and bring the official document to the interview).
  • Current CPR-BLS card (must be issued by American Heart Association).
  • Identify 2 areas of nursing interest. (Sinai reserves the right to offer you an alternate unit based on the interview performance and availability of positions).

Interview:

  • On receipt of the completed application, you will receive a call for a phone screen with HR Talent Acquisition, as well as Tracee Janey, Simulation Coordinator. A virtual or onsite interview will be held with your top choice unit(s)/available unit(s), including meeting with the unit manager and/or unit-based staff as well as share time.
  • A Human Resources (HR) recruiter will notify you of the outcome of your interview within 5-7 business days; an offer will be made to successful candidates at that time.
  • Before accepting the offer, you may request a shared day or time on the unit. You are required to wear your UMSON uniform for your shared day/time.
  • Finally, you will be sent a link to complete a basic online pharmacology examination. You have 2 opportunities to get an 80% pass grade.

Practicum:

  • Your practicum must be on the unit for which you are hired.
  • Scholars must follow the UMSON practicum process and all other requirements until they have successfully passed the NCLEX.
  • UMSON practicum coordinator and the BSN/CNL faculty are responsible for your practicum needs. The unit managers are not responsible to scholars until they start employment on successful completion of NCLEX.
