The UMB Health Sciences and Human Services Library (HS/HSL) is providing two patient communication workshop series this spring. For time, date, and registration information please see below:

Enhancing Patient Outcomes Through Clear Health Communication

Are you aware of your patients’ ability to understand and act on the information you give them? There is evidence that health care providers overestimate what patients are able to understand. Low health literacy is associated with higher mortality, higher rates of hospitalization and readmission, and poor self-management skills for chronic disease. This workshop covers the basics of health literacy and clear communication including tools that will assist you in creating easy-to-read materials. Also incorporated will be an opportunity for attendees to put difficult medical jargon into plain language.
