The virtual semester caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has impeded the traditional on-campus opportunities to develop social networks within and across schools. Unfortunately, this promotes isolation and disconnection, especially for students who did not return or move to Baltimore.

As a campuswide student organization focusing on student wellness and advocacy, NAMI@UMB is seeking to promote student interaction this fall beginning with its first event of the year, an Anti-Isolation Social Hour on Thursday, Oct. 1, at 6:30 p.m.

With this event hosted on Zoom, the organization hopes to provide a space for students across campus to meet other students, learn about mental wellness, bond over the challenges of isolation, and enjoy time together through games and conversation.

As students may be finding it difficult to get to know peers within their own class during this time — much less from other classes or disciplines — NAMI hopes this platform will offer students an opportunity to bolster connections and support within and across schools.
