AACN Action Alert

On June 24, Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) introduced the Strengthening America’s Health Care Readiness Act (S. 4055). This bipartisan bill would invest $1 billion in the Nurse Corps Scholarship and Loan Repayment Programs and $5 billion in the National Health Service Corps (NHSC), as well as create a National Health Service Corps Emergency Service demonstration project.

The Nurse Corps Scholarship and Loan Repayment Programs, as well as the NHSC, help ensure nursing students and nurses enter into practice where health care is needed the most, including in health professional shortage areas and medically underserved regions. Through the Strengthening America’s Health Care Readiness Act, additional critical resources would be available so our nursing student and workforce, including those in the health care professions that are historically underrepresented, can combat current and future public health challenges.

Email your senators today, urging them to cosponsor the Strengthening America’s Health Care Readiness Act (S.4055) and include it in the next COVID-19 relief package.
