online orientation attendees

The UMBrella Coaching Program launched its first virtual cohort with 12 coaches and over 60 participants representing several schools and units across campus.

On Sept. 17, Jennifer Litchman, MA, senior vice president for external relations and special assistant to the president, and founder and chair of the UMBrella Group, welcomed Cohort 3 during a virtual orientation. Attendees also heard personal reflections and got advice on getting the most out of the program from past participants, Carey Martin (Cohort 1) and Shilpa Shah (Cohort 2). Here’s one participant’s reaction to the orientation: “The orientation got me excited for what is to come with the rest of the program. Looking forward to it.”

Each participant is assigned to a coaching group led by one of the program's dynamic coaches. Groups will meet virtually each month from October 2020 through April 2021 to explore topics including goal-setting, communication, conflict styles, and leadership. New tools for the program include the Participant’s Guide and a resources toolkit stocked with career-related articles, books, and videos. This year’s program features relevant learning activities, useful self-assessment tools, virtual UMBrella mixers, UMBrella Advisory Board career panel, and a culminating online closing ceremony.
