graphic with parents and children showing a compromise meter

Parents know these scenes all too well:

Their child refuses to get dressed and ready for school. A change of plans causes their child to get upset.

What’s the best strategy to help the child respond?

Answers to those questions and more are available in a series of free, educational videos for parents of third- through fifth-graders tackling common emotional and behavioral topics to aid in childhood development.

The video series was developed by the University of Maryland School of Social Work’s Institute for Innovation and Implementation Office of Instructional Technology and Media for Unstuck and On Target's curriculum. The videos are available in English and Spanish.

These videos are designed to support parents and caregivers in understanding executive functioning, identifying their child’s strengths and challenges, and assisting children to build their skills in being flexible, independent problem solvers.

The videos were conceived during the COVID-19 pandemic to support parents who, by necessity, became home-school special educators for youth with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder and autism spectrum disorder.
