Volunteers Needed for a Research Study on Balance and Mobility
May 25, 2021The University of Maryland, Baltimore is seeking stroke survivors to participate in a research study. The purpose of the study is to learn about weight shifting in stroke survivors. The information collected will guide future interventions aimed at improving walking speed in stroke.
You are eligible to participate if:
- Your stroke was on one side of your brain more than six months ago
- You can walk 30 feet
- You can stand unassisted for five minutes
- You have no medical condition preventing participation in regular exercise
Participation will last for two months and include three test visits and six weeks of training, three visits a week for one hour.
We will ask you to perform clinical measures of balance and motor recovery and assess your weight transfer and stepping reactions. Training will be one of two groups that focuses on improving weight transfer. You will be compensated for your time, and we thank you in advance!
We are also looking for age-matched control participants. If you are a generally healthy individual, you may be eligible to participate. Your participation will be for one day and last about three hours. We will assess your transfer and stepping reactions. You will be compensated for your time.
