In the event that your default device is unavailable or you get a new device to replace your old default device, you can generate a bypass code to access Duo and register your new device. 

Check out the steps below to do so: 

Generating a Bypass Code 

1. Go to https://directory.umaryland.edu and enter your UMID and Password
2. On the new page, navigate to the left-hand panel and under Setup your: choose Multi Factor Authentication (DUO).
3. The Duo self-service page will appear and you will navigate to the bottom of the page and click Generate Bypass Code.
4. You will be asked to identify yourself.
5. A Duo bypass code will appear; it will be valid for 10 minutes. 

Using the Bypass Code to Add a New Device 

1. Go to Duo’s multifactor authentication (MFA) page (you can access this page when signing into an application requiring MFA or the account management site).
2. When you reach the authentication page, select My Settings and Device.
3. Use the bypass code to confirm your identity.
4. You will be taken to a new page to add a new device.
