Why I Joined the Food for Our Front Lines Effort: Cathy Hall
April 28, 2020“My grandfather was a street cleaner or ‘hokey man’ in Baltimore City in the 1970s and ’80s. Not a very glamorous or well-paying job, I know, but he exuded joy through the kindness he showed to everyone that he met. Without saying a word, he taught me that it's not about what you have, but how you treat people.
“With that in mind, I make it a point to thank others, to tell them that I appreciate them, to recognize their accomplishments and their struggles, because ultimately, we all want to know that we are ‘seen.’
“I am grateful to be able to work from home during these uncertain times, so when the Food for Our Front Lines initiative was presented by UMB, I simply decided to give what I would have spent on gas and lunches had I been going to the office that week.
“Kindness and compassion are most important, but when combined with financial support, the rewards are exponential for everyone involved. Pay it forward and don't look back!”
