Executive sponsors, co-chairs, and project managers are named for group that will develop recommendations on workforce flexibility, success, and well-being.

In April 2022, University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) President Bruce E. Jarrell, MD, FACS, established the Future of Work Task Force and charged the group to think through the changing needs of UMB and develop recommendations that allow for increased staff work flexibility, recognize our employee value proposition, support the well-being of our workforce, and assist with senior leadership in planning for the future.

The executive sponsors of the Future of Work Task Force are Dawn Rhodes, DBA, MBA, senior vice president and chief business and finance officer, and Roger Ward, EdD, JD, MSL, MPA, provost, executive vice president, and dean of the University of Maryland Graduate School. The co-chairs are Malika Monger, MPA, PHR, chief human resources officer and associate vice president, and Flavius Lilly, PhD, MA, MPH, vice provost, academic and student affairs, and vice dean, Graduate School. Patricia Hoffmann, MA, MSL, director of benefits, work/life strategies, and compensation, and Elisa Medina, MSW, career development manager, will serve as the project managers.

The task force will include three committees focused on work flexibility, our employee value proposition, and employee well-being. Committee chairs, co-chairs, and members will be appointed by Jarrell. There will be broad and inclusive representation from across the schools, units, Faculty Senate, and Staff Senate, including representation from all the generations that make up UMB’s workforce.

All faculty and staff will have the opportunity to learn more by attending virtual informational sessions July 28 and Aug. 9. Subsequent listening sessions and surveys will be offered by each of the three committees in the fall. The Future of Work Task Force is expected to have its recommendations prepared to share with UMB senior leaders no later than February 2023.
