A resource webpage helps students navigate one of life’s most rewarding moments.

Starting or expanding a family can be one of the most rewarding moments in life. As a student, it can also be one of the most challenging.

The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) understands the importance of supporting parents, including students who become a new caregiver through childbirth or adoption. Providing parental leave is essential to the success of UMB students. That’s why UMB Student Affairs has developed the Student Parental Leave webpage to help students navigate this journey.

The webpage outlines Universitywide and school-specific policies, resources, and information that address common questions students might have, including:

  • How will taking parental leave affect my financial aid or scholarship eligibility?
  • Are there any academic accommodations available during this time?
  • How do I add a dependent to my student health insurance?
  • Are there support groups available for students who are parents?
  • How do I quality for an approved leave of absence?

For students with questions or concerns, the webpage also includes the contact for each school and program. They can help provide any additional assistance a student may need.

How Can We Improve?

UMB Student Affairs is committed to making vital information easily accessible to all students. If you have suggestions for resources that should be included on the webpage, email umbstudentaffairs@umaryland.edu.
