Nominations are due June 30 for the Founders Week Public Servant of the Year Award.


Every fall, the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) dedicates one week to commemorating our rich history and celebrating the future we’re building together. Among Founders Week's highlights is recognizing our UMB community's extraordinary work. The Public Servant of the Year Award recognizes explicitly outstanding staff and faculty for service and volunteering that contribute to fulfilling UMB’s mission and core values. One individual is selected each year as the winner of this award.

Criteria

Specific award criteria for Public Servant of the Year are listed below:

  • The extent to which the service fulfills the campus mission and core values
  • The extent to which the candidate’s public service is a public health or social policy issue
  • The extent to which the candidate’s public service addresses the unmet needs of Maryland's underserved health, school, and social service populations, particularly among the disadvantaged.

Nomination Packet

  1. Letter of recommendation from the person nominating the individual
  2. One additional letter of recommendation from a colleague of the person being nominated
  3. A PDF copy of the nominee’s CV/résumé

Eligibility

Staff and faculty currently employed at the University of Maryland, Baltimore

Timeline

Application materials must be submitted by June 30. Late applications will not be accepted. The winner will be notified in the weeks before Founders Week.

Miscellaneous

  • The UMB Staff Senate will select the top three nominees and forward them to UMB’s president and provost.
  • The president and provost will make the final decision on the award winner.
  • Winners will be announced before Founders Week and celebrated at a reception in their honor during the week.
