Veronica “Ronnie” Quattrini, DNP, MS ’99, BSN ’85, FNP-BC, assistant professor and senior director of the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program, has been named a subrecipient primary clinical liaison on a four-year, $2.8 million grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) for the Supporting Nursing Advanced Practice Transitions (SNAPT) Fellowship Program, a collaboration between UMSON and the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing (JHSON).
UMSON has collaborated with JHSON on the SNAPT Fellowship since 2021 and was invited to be included in the grant, Quattrini said. The SNAPT Fellowship facilitates a seamless transition for DNP students from academic coursework to graduate professional primary care practice in Maryland. It provides career placement in the student’s desired area of nursing practice and a pathway to proceed directly into the workforce upon graduation. It also offers a transition to practice course as well as ongoing one-on-one faculty and clinical support and mentorship as the graduate transitions to clinical nurse practitioner practice.
Kristy Novak, MS, associate director of student placements, serves as the clinical partner liaison for SNAPT and is responsible for recruiting and managing the partner sites involved with the SNAPT Fellowship as well as recruiting interested fellows from UMSON.
“Our plan is for further expansion of the fellowship program at UMSON and JHSON as well as long-term plans to extend the fellowship to the eastern and western parts of the state with Salisbury University and Frostburg University,” Quattrini said.
Student requirements for the SNAPT Fellowship include:
- matriculating into their final semester of a primary care nurse practitioner program/specialty at UMSON or JHSON, graduating in May 2024
- committing to practice in Maryland for at least three years post-graduation
- meeting all hiring criteria mandated by the partner clinical practice.
