The University of Maryland School of Nursing (UMSON) held a highly successful community outreach event Oct. 19 at Lexington Market that was sponsored by UMB’s EMBRACE initiative.

Students hosted resource tables and provided information on heart disease/stroke, COPD/smoking, and diabetes. UMSON students, faculty, and staff gathered in the Baltimore Room to enjoy lunch from many of the Lexington Market food vendors that offer discounted rates to UMB employees.

There were brief remarks made by Yolanda Ogbolu, PhD, NNP, FNAP, FAAN, the Bill and Joanne Conway Dean of the University of Maryland School of Nursing; Kyla Liggett-Creel, PhD, EMBRACE executive director; and Tio G, a vendor at Lexington Market.

The collaborative, a program within the EMBRACE initiative that sponsored the event, is a coalition of UMB staff and faculty, grassroots organizations, nonprofit organizations, and governmental agency partners focused on healing-centered engagement in the community. Programming includes violence prevention, youth development, and training.

We look forward to each school having similar outreach events in the coming months!
