UMSSW Will Have Large Presence at Council on Social Work Education Annual Meeting

The University of Maryland School of Social Work (UMSSW) will have a big presence at the Council on Social Work Education’s (CSWE) Annual Meeting in Atlanta on Oct. 26-29. This year’s conference theme is “It’s Time to Act: Defining and Reckoning with Anti-Racist Social Work Education.”
Several members of UMSSW community will be presenting at the conference on a wide range of important diversity, equity, and inclusion-related topics.
On Oct. 28, Kerri Evans, MSW, will present the workshop “Museums as a Tool to Teach Anti-Oppressive Practices in Social Work Education.” In addition, Evans, together with Josue Rodriguez, Rahat Khpalwak, Lisa Unangst, Ishara Casellas Connors, and MSW student Brittany Murillo will present the poster “Community Advisory Board’s Identification of Barriers to Accessing Higher Education for Recent Refugee Arrivals.”
On Oct. 29, Shelly Wiechelt, PhD, along with Jayshree Jani, PhD, will deliver the oral presentation “Assessing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Curriculum: A Multi-Pronged Ongoing Programming Approach.”
On Oct. 27, Laura Loessner, MSW, SICSW, LCSW-C, assistant director, field education and clinical assistant professor, together with Caron Cox-Branch, MSW, LCSW-C; Madge Henderson, MSW, LCSW-C; and Mary Hodorowicz, PhD, LCSW-C; will participate in the workshop “Use of Asynchronous Simulation to Support Social Work Field Education.”
Geoffrey Greif, MSW, PhD, will present on "Raising Bi-Racial Children" with Michael Woolley, PhD, MSW, DCSW, and Victoria Stubbs, MSW, as co-authors.
Haelim Lee, MSW, will present the poster “Forgone Healthcare Among Children with Depression in the U.S.,” which she co-authored with fellow UMSSW PhD student Yoonzie Chung, MSW. Lee also will present the poster “Family Stress and Post-Traumatic Growth Among Parents During the Pandemic.”
On Oct. 28, Amanda Lehning, MSW, PhD, senior associate dean for academic affairs; Neijma Celestine-Donnor, MSW, JD, associate dean for diversity, equity, and inclusion; Adam Schneider, MSW, MA, clinical assistant professor; and Samantha Fuld, MSW, DSW, clinical assistant professor, will co-present the workshop “Developing and Implementing Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) Curriculum in Social Work Education.” Loessner will be among the contributors to this workshop.
