Snack and Food Options: SMC Campus Center’s New Vending Machines
May 02, 2023 Angela JacksonThe first floor reopens with new vending options that offer healthy, convenient, and affordable choices for UMB community members on the go.
On March 15, UMB Student Affairs announced changes to food service in the SMC Campus Center. Effective April 1, Chartwells discontinued its catering services in the Campus Center, and its oversight of the Market at UMB. While the Campus Center moved to a temporary catering model with expanded options for events, the Market at UMB was temporarily closed from April 1-11 while Chartwells vacated the space.
We know that this temporary closure inconvenienced members of the UMB community who rely on the Campus Center for meals and snacks. However, we have been working diligently to provide alternative retail food options to minimize the impact, especially for UMB students.
New Vending Machines
We are excited to announce that the Market at UMB has reopened with four new vending machines. These machines offer a range of food and drink options, including snacks, drinks, and sandwiches, for individuals on the go. Additional vending options and microwaves will be added in the next couple of weeks. Currently, microwaves can be accessed on the first and second floors of the Campus Center or on the first floor of the Health Sciences and Human Services Library.
One of the new machines is a Farmer’s Fridge, which provides healthy vending options such as salads, bowls, wraps, and snacks made with fresh, organic ingredients. Orders can be made at the machine or through their mobile app, where rewards can be earned. For a limited time, Farmer’s Fridge also is providing 25 percent off.
Another machine provides breakfast and lunch sandwiches for those who need a quick and filling meal. All of the vending machines accept credit and debit cards and most accept cash.
UMB Student Affairs is committed to providing food options that are accessible to all members of the UMB community, regardless of their financial situation. Our commitment also includes the UMB Student Pantry. Located on the third floor of the Campus Center, the pantry helps to address food insecurity on campus by providing all UMB students with access to nutritionally rich snacks and meals.
Future of Dining and Catering in the Campus Center
These new vending machines are part of UMB Student Affairs’ effort to provide temporary dining options to the campus community while we search for more permanent dining options. We will continue to provide updates via The Elm, The Elm Weekly, and Campus Life Weekly. You also can visit the Future of Dining and Catering in the Campus Center webpage to stay up to date.
