Student Affairs is privileged to recognize and honor students, interns, and non-student part-time employees.

This year, National Student Employment Week runs from April 10-April 14. UMB’s Division of Student Affairs is privileged to recognize and honor our students, interns, and non-student part-time employees.

UMB Student Affairs continues to rise to the top of our field because of the continued dedication, passion, and commitment of our student, intern, and non-student part-time employees. It’s with their help that we can offer inclusive, informative, and engaging programs and services to the entire UMB community.

The staff in UMB Student Affairs have shared positive words to further show the amount of appreciation we have for our employees.

Student Counseling Center

“Tiffany Oyekan is full of innovative ideas and work ethic. She often showed initiative and was very detailed when following directions. She deserves a huge congratulations as she accepts her professional degree!” — Tierra Major Kearney, outreach and referral specialist, Student Counseling Center

Educational Support and Disability Services (ESDS)

“Our SW intern and student test proctors play a critical role in our ESDS operations, to work closely with students and provide an equitable academic and testing experience here at UMB!” — Deborah Levi, MA, LCSW-C, director, Educational Support and Disability Services

Intercultural Center

“The Intercultural Center deeply appreciates the work of its diversity fellows, Paige Tolbard and Ally Clayton, for their commitment to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion at UMB. Paige supported the center through their marketing skills and the launch of the Intercultural Center lounge, while Ally has worked closely with ESDS to create spaces of belonging and affirmation for students with disabilities.” — Rosemary Ferreira, MEd, associate director, Intercultural Center

URecFit and Wellness

Aquatics

“The aquatic staff at URecFit and Wellness have exceeded expectations and have grown to be a strong team. As Professional Rescuers they are leaders in their field and continually work to stay on top of their skills.” — Elizabeth Lasker, MA, assistant director, aquatics, URecFit and Wellness

Facility Supervisor

“Facility Supervisors play a pivotal role in URecFit and Wellness. Without them, our daily operations would not run. They ensure our facility operations run safely and smoothly for our patrons to utilize and are trained to take lead on responding to any emergency that might occur. On top of that, they supervise between 4 to 6 part-time staff when on shift and ensure they are meeting expectations and follow proper standards. I am incredibly grateful for their help and dedication.” — Brandon Suarez, assistant director, business and programs, URecFit and Wellness

Fitness

“Our fitness staff help maintain a safe and clean environment for the UMB community. I can’t thank them enough for their diligence and dedication to the services we provide here at URecFit and Wellness!” — Jimmy Mszanski, MBA, senior assistant director, business and programs, URecFit and Wellness

Patron

“Patron Assistants are the face of URecFit and Wellness. They are the first staff patrons see when entering our facility. They ensure our patrons have a pleasant time in our facility by greeting them as they come in and by providing quality customer service. I am very thankful for their hard work and dedication to our department.” — Brandon Suarez, assistant director, business and programs, URecFit and Wellness

Pratt

“The Pratt and Intramural staff are an integral part of the URecFit and Wellness team, and work diligently to provide and maintain a safe and friendly environment for all members to enjoy. URecFit and Wellness are so thankful for everything you do!” — Jacob Pridemore, MS, senior assistant director, sports and operations, URecFit and Wellness

Wellness

“The wellness staff participate in the promotion of wellness programs, services, and resources by providing outreach across campus as the hosts of health education and awareness tables. They assist with marketing and communication by creating promotional materials such as flyers, social media posts, and educational infographics. The wellness instructors have completed a Certified Peer Educator (CPE) training through NASPA and have researched and created health education on topics such as social health, creativity, gratitude, and nutrition. I have been very fortunate to have such a creative and insightful staff of wellness champions this academic year.” — Amanda Breon, MS, senior assistant director, wellness, URecFit and Wellness

UMB Writing Center

“At the UMB Writing Center, peer writing consultants meet with faculty, staff, postdoctoral fellows, students, and members of Baltimore communities to discuss strategies for writing, offering in-person and online synchronous and asynchronous one-to-one and group-oriented support for these writers at all stages of the writing process across the many disciplinary and professional discourses of UMB programs. Consultants work long hours to hold themselves answerable to the lived experiences and identities of UMB writers, serving as accomplices in critically questioning attitudes about language 'correctness' while reimagining writing education to respond more justly and equitably to the social, negotiated, and contextual nature of all communication within and beyond the academy. Thank you so much, consultants, for your good work!” — James Wright, MFA, associate director, UMB Writing Center
