In an important move toward the future of dental education and health care, University of Maryland School of Dentistry (UMSOD) Dean Mark Reynolds, DDS, PhD, officially announced Dec. 2 the launch of the school's new Division of Artificial Intelligence Research.

This division is poised to transform the field of oral and maxillofacial pathology and radiology by leveraging the power of artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance diagnostics and improve patient outcomes. It will focus on harnessing the power of AI to transform oral health care, further positioning UMSOD as a leader in advancing patient care through pioneering innovations and technologies.

This new division in the Department of Oncology & Diagnostic Sciences will be directed by Ahmed S. Sultan, BDS, PhD, assistant professor in oral medicine and oral pathology, and Jeffery Price, DDS, MS, clinical professor and director of oral radiology.
