The Academy of Lifelong Learning’s latest online community offers expert advice and support for aging and caregiving challenges and empowers users with resources and guidance from UMB’s seven schools.

Experiencing the effects of aging can often be perplexing and stressful for many people who are advancing in years. Likewise, navigating the complexities of caring for aging parents and loved ones can be emotionally challenging and often physically overwhelming. At the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), we understand the intricacies involved with aging and providing support and assistance to the elderly. Our expertise spans a broad spectrum of topics essential for aging individuals, caregivers, and families alike.

UMB’s Academy of Lifelong Learning (ALL) is excited to introduce its new online community, the Aging Forum, which aims to provide a supportive space where online visitors can seek answers and find solace. Our expert contributors are professionals with a deep understanding of the aging process, offering practical advice and emotional support. Whether you’re grappling with health issues, feeling overwhelmed, or simply seeking guidance, our forum is designed to accompany you through every step of your journey.

Providing website visitors with access to experts from all seven UMB schools (School of Dentistry, School of Graduate Studies, Francis King Carey School of Law, School of Medicine, School of Nursing, School of Pharmacy, and School of Social Work) who have knowledge about numerous aspects of aging allows UMB to fulfill its goal to endow individuals and caregivers with the knowledge and resources they need to navigate — with compassion and confidence — the complexities of aging.

From understanding palliative and hospice care to rehabilitation strategies, we offer insights to help improve the quality of life for aging individuals. Additionally, our knowledge extends to specialized areas such as, but not limited to, geriatric oral health care, fall and fracture prevention, navigating dementia, and vision care in the aging population.

Testimonials from visitors to our online Learning Center are always supportive and reinforce the knowledge that we impart.

Leo, from California, shared, “When I came across this site, I was fairly positive no one would help a stranger with a wildly specific and random question. However, the folks here went above and beyond to provide me timely, accurate, informative information that helped soothe the worries of my family and I. I can’t thank them enough!”

And Kristen, from Maine, described her experience: “I had a very specific question I couldn’t find the answer to anywhere else, and I feel like you addressed it well. The information you provided has eased my mind and helped keep me safe.”

Connect with our community that understands and cares — one that will empower individuals to navigate the challenges of aging with self-assurance and resilience.

The ALL website is a resource for topics including aging, parenting, COVID-19, and constitutional law.
