Diverse shades of hands connected to form a circle.

Submit your application by Sept. 20 to join this board, which is focused on enhancing community engagement, civic participation, and service learning.

The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) is proud to support and foster a vibrant, inclusive, and engaged student body. To further this mission, UMB Student Affairs and the Office of Community Engagement is forming the Student Advisory Board (SAB) for Community and Civic Engagement. SAB is focused on enhancing community engagement, civic participation, and service learning. SAB seeks to recruit two dedicated students from each professional school: Dentistry, Graduate Studies, Law, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Social Work. We believe that passions, insights, and leadership skills make for an ideal candidate to contribute to this initiative.

Why Join the Student Advisory Board?

  • Influence and Impact: Be at the forefront of developing and implementing strategies and structures that address key community issues and enhance civic engagement on campus and beyond.
  • Professional Growth: Gain valuable experience in interprofessional leadership, project management, and strategic planning, while working closely with dedicated staff, faculty, community leaders, and fellow students.
  • Networking Opportunities: Build connections with influential figures within the academic and civic communities and collaborate with peers who share your dedication to social impact.
  • Recognition: Your contributions will be recognized at the annual Interprofessional Program for Academic Community Engagement (IPACE) Symposium, and you will receive a certificate acknowledging your involvement.
  • Incentives: Students who participate in the in-person session will receive a free lunch. Also, students interested in serving in a leadership role of SAB may be eligible for semesterly financial compensation.

Your Role

As a member of SAB, you will participate in regular monthly in-person meetings and contribute to the development of an interprofessional charting system to identify courses, projects, and activities focusing on community and civic engagement. Your role will be instrumental in driving our mission forward and ensuring that our efforts align with the needs of both UMB and the wider community.

How to Apply

If you are interested in joining the Student Advisory Board for Community and Civic Engagement, please submit your application by 7 p.m. Sept. 20, 2024. The application can be found here.
