The School of Pharmacy administrator opts for two wheels instead of four when commuting to campus.
The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) Office of Sustainability would like to recognize Ronald Cisneros as a Sustainability Champion! Cisneros has been at UMB for five years and is the administrative manager for the Department of Practice, Sciences, and Health Outcomes Research (P-SHOR) at the School of Pharmacy. He focuses on procurement, travel, HR, operations, and more.
Cisneros bikes to work each day that he is on campus and tries to encourage others to do the same. Cisneros emphasizes that biking to work is a great way to save on car-related expenses (gas, insurance, maintenance, taxes, registrations, and parking) and is helpful in getting extra movement in.
Cisneros integrates biking into his life outside of work by prioritizing walking or biking around the city instead of driving. In his household, Cisneros and his wife share one car, which also helps with expenses and encourages a more active lifestyle.
When asked what students, faculty, and staff at UMB can do to contribute to sustainability efforts, Cisneros listed sustainable forms of transportation like biking, walking, carpooling, and using the bus. He also encourages participating in and/or organizing community and campus cleanups.
Lastly, he says, “Go O’s! And Ravens if it’s the fall.”
