UMB Workforce Initiatives and Southwest Workforce Roundtable hears presentation that underscores the potential of AI to enhance career readiness.

The University of Maryland, Baltimore’s (UMB) Office of Community and Civic Engagement (OCCE) convened the Southwest Workforce Roundtable, a regular gathering of workforce professionals dedicated to supporting residents of Southwest Baltimore, on Nov. 20. The meeting featured a presentation by Rishan Mohamed, founder and CEO of Hiring Coach AI, who demonstrated how artificial intelligence (AI) can transform the job search process.

Hiring Coach AI is designed to provide personalized feedback and guidance to job seekers, offering tools for résumé and LinkedIn profile optimization, job fit analysis, networking strategies, and interview preparation. One of the platform’s most notable features is its ability to help users identify and articulate their unique value proposition, enabling them to better recognize and communicate their skills and strengths.

Participants discussed the platform’s accessibility, including its free tier and cost options, as well as its integration with LinkedIn. While limitations such as the inability to directly connect to Indeed.com or combine multiple résumés were noted, Mohamed emphasized that the system provides prompts to help users leverage other AI tools for those tasks.

UMB Workforce Initiatives director Lisa Rawlings facilitated the conversation and believes UMB faculty, staff, and community partners should explore how innovations like Hiring Coach AI might complement existing career services. For UMB students, the platform can help them prepare for internships, residencies, and employment opportunities by tailoring guidance to individual interests and goals.

By convening the roundtable and fostering collaboration among workforce professionals, OCCE continues to advance professional development and resource-sharing. The presentation underscored the potential of AI to enhance career readiness and highlighted UMB’s role in connecting innovative tools with the broader workforce ecosystem in Baltimore City.
