“What made this experience especially impactful was the network I built,” says Isata Sesay, MS, of Environmental Health and Safety.

"I joined the UMBrella Coaching Program with hopes of personal and professional growth and the program delivered beyond my expectations.

Each month offered a learning opportunity. We focused on the 'True Colors' personality assessment that gave me insight into how I lead and communicate. 'Managing Up' helped me build stronger relationships with my supervisors, while 'Negotiating' equipped me with tools to advocate for myself professionally.

What made this experience especially impactful was the network I built. My peers became trusted colleagues, mentors, and friends — we celebrated wins, supported one another during setbacks, and shared honest reflections. I’m incredibly grateful to Sherry Bohn, executive director of Environmental Health and Safety, and to my supervisor, Ed Case, radiation safety officer, for supporting my participation in this program. I also want to thank Antoinette Shannon, administrative analyst, Environmental Health and Safety, for encouraging me to apply to the program.

I give my heartfelt thanks to my coach, Crystal Edwards, assistant dean for legal studies, Francis King Carey School of Law. Her insight, empathy, and thoughtful guidance helped create a space where I felt safe, seen, and empowered to grow."
