The UMB President’s Symposium and White Paper Project is accepting applicants for the 2021-2022 President’s Fellows program.


The President's Symposium and White Paper Project is an interprofessional and interdisciplinary program that explores issues impacting the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB)  community. As a component of the President’s Symposium, the President’s Fellows are an interdisciplinary group of students selected to participate in a mentored fellowship while researching, developing, and writing recommendations for the University.

In this year’s program, the President’s Fellows working alongside UMB’s inaugural chief equity, diversity, and inclusion officer and vice president, Diane Forbes Berthoud, PhD, MA, making recommendations to University leadership on “Strategic Priorities for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.”

Participation benefits:

  • A total stipend accumulating to $2,500
  • Ability to work alongside an interprofessional team of students to write and publish a University-focused white paper
  • Individual meetings and interviews with UMB’s leadership
  • Final presentation to UMB leadership and greater community on the resulting white paper’s findings and institutional recommendations

Individuals selected to participate should expect to commit an average of 10 hours a week to the program until May 15.
