September 23, 2019 UMB Office of Communications and Public AffairsUMB employee is one of 12 finalists for national honor from the Academy of Cleaning Excellence.
Willard Moore, a UMB Environmental Services employee who works at the SMC Campus Center, is one of 12 national finalists for the Rock Star Custodian Award, given out by the Academy of Cleaning Excellence.
Moore, who has been at UMB since March 2017, said of his job and nomination: “It's all about pride in yourself and your job. If you see something that needs to be done, just do it. Treat your job as if you own the building. If you own it, you will do the best job you can, no matter what your job is.”
Here is an excerpt from his nomination for the award:
“Mr. Moore goes above and beyond each and every day. He sets the bar high for other staff members with regard to his performance, attendance, and communication skills. His enthusiasm is infectious and has sparked an interest in some of his co-workers to do the same.
“He’s currently working at our Campus Center and is known as a friend, confidant, and brotherly figure to many of the students. He is committed to not only holding himself accountable but truly learning from mistakes made. He will find that silver lining and encourages everyone else to do the same.
“He is an inspiration. If something needs to be said because it is not right, he will be sure to share that information and do the right thing. He also is happy to celebrate the success of others and not be so selfish to take credit for everything all of the time.”
Voting for the award is open until Dec. 15, and the winner will be announced in January. Read more about the awards here.
