KN95 Masks Required in Classroom and Training Activities Regardless of Vaccination Status
October 08, 2021 Office of Communications and Public AffairsThey are strongly recommended for fully vaccinated students and employees in other group activities as well.
The University of Maryland, Baltimore’s (UMB) face covering guidance has been updated recently to mandate the use of KN95 masks on campus in many situations because of the rapidly evolving COVID-19 pandemic.
KN95 masks are:
- the only permitted face covering for unvaccinated faculty, staff, and students — whether they have a valid vaccine exemption or not.
- required for fully vaccinated students, faculty, and staff when participating in classroom and training activities.
- permitted to be removed by fully vaccinated faculty or staff delivering in-person lectures or presentations while lecturing as long as at least 6 feet of physical distance can be maintained between the faculty member or presenter and the students or other audience. Faculty or staff who are not vaccinated must wear a KN95 while lecturing.
KN95s are strongly recommended:
- for fully vaccinated students, faculty, and staff when participating in group activities where 6 feet of physical distance cannot be maintained or more than five people are present.
The Office of Emergency Management has completed distribution of KN95s to schools and units. If you have not received your KN95 mask yet, students should contact their school’s student affairs office, and employees should contact their supervisor.
A face covering must be worn at all times indoors while on UMB’s campus or at an off-campus location occupied by UMB community members (e.g., Shady Grove, MPRC, Donaldson Brown, Columbus Center, etc.), regardless of vaccination status. UMB’s campus is defined as including all property owned, leased, or operated by UMB. This includes all buses or shuttles operated by UMB.
