Four UMSON graduates come together again while helping to care for many of the sickest COVID-19 patients in the state of Maryland.

The COVID-19 crisis has created many challenges, but it also has inspired acts of amazing kindness among members of our UMB community. We want to hear your inspiring stories for our On the Bright Side series. Submit your story here.

After the University of Maryland School of Nursing's (UMSON) December 2018 graduation, alumnae Emily Acuna, Hannah Butta, Roxanna Pollack, and Gurleen Virk were hired into different units at the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC).

After a little over a year in their specialties — labor and delivery, orthopedics, oncology, and ICU — these UMSON graduates found themselves together again. This time, they were all nurses who volunteered to join UMMC's Biocontainment Unit, caring for many of the sickest COVID-19 patients in our state.
