New York State Department of Health associate commissioner will share her insight on health literacy and patient care Dec. 3.

The University of Maryland, Baltimore is excited to have Wilma Alvarado-Little, MA, MSW, joining us as a speaker in our President’s Symposium Series on Health Literacy as a Social Determinant of Health.

Alvarado-Little is the associate commissioner for the New York State Department of Health and the director of the Office of Minority Health and Health Disparities Prevention. Alvarado-Little is a self-described language access advocate with over 30 years of experience in the health care field and has been a strong voice advocating for the provision of linguistically appropriate health care services at national, state, and local levels.

Alvarado-Little is a part of UMB’s yearlong Symposium Series and will add her unique insight on how UMB can expand its role in improving the relationship between provider and patient, therefore, allowing patients to be well-informed and active decision-makers in their health and the health of their families.

The event will be held from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 3 and will be hosted virtually through Webex. To learn more and RSVP, click here or go to www.Umaryland.edu/ILE.
