Calls to the hotline to report COVID-19 exposure or cases should come from individuals who have been on campus in the past three days or who are expected to be on campus in the next 10 days.

In an effort to best track and manage COVID-19 exposure and contact tracing, the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) asks that only faculty, students, and staff who have been on campus in the past three days or who are expected to be on campus in the next 10 days report COVID-19 exposure to the UMB COVID-19 Hotline (800-701-9863).

Calls to the hotline to report COVID-19 exposure or cases are intended for those individuals above who:

  • Are experiencing symptoms consistent with COVID-19
  • Have had a close contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19
  • Have a positive COVID-19 test
  • Have questions about COVID-19-related quarantine or isolation guidance if any of the above exposures apply

For other students and employees, please refer to the UMB COVID-19 Hotline Exposure Guide for step-by-step instructions, and make a report of any positive COVID-19 results or close contacts/high-risk exposures here.

Important Tool for Tracking COVID-19 at UMB

For those who have been on campus or are planning to be on campus and have had the above exposures, it is necessary to contact the UMB COVID-19 Hotline at 800-701-9863 to help UMB understand the risk to others on campus and conduct contact tracing if needed.

The UMB COVID-19 Hotline will not call you to start the process. You must make the first call.

Please be patient between intake and the return call from a nurse. Caseloads vary each day and could impact wait times. During extreme surge situations like the Omicron variant wave, you may not receive a call back as quickly as under normal conditions.

  • Weekdays: Calls are typically returned within a few hours during normal business hours.
  • Weeknights: Calls are returned the next morning.
  • Weekends: Calls are returned the same day or following morning.
