UMB Updates Policies on Face Coverings and Domestic Business Travel
May 12, 2021 UMB Office of Communications and Public AffairsUniversity no longer requires face coverings be worn outdoors with one exception, or inside when a person is alone in an office, laboratory, or study area.
On May 13, 2021, the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) updated its COVID-19 policies regarding face coverings and domestic business travel.
Effective immediately and consistent with state of Maryland and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance, UMB no longer requires masks and face coverings be worn outdoors. However, face coverings will still be required for outdoor gatherings where attendees will be in fixed seating for more the 15 minutes and for which 6 feet of physical distancing cannot be sustained.
In addition, a face covering is not required when a person is alone in an office, laboratory, or study area.
When removing your face covering to eat or drink, 6 feet of physical distancing must continue to be maintained between people.
Masks must still be worn at all other times inside buildings on the UMB campus or off-campus locations occupied by UMB community members (Universities at Shady Grove, Maryland Psychiatric Research Center, Donaldson Brown Riverfront Event Center, Columbus Center, etc.).
Also, as of June 1, UMB will permit the resumption of domestic business travel.
UMB travelers must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in accordance with the University System of Maryland’s vaccination policy and follow current CDC domestic travel guidance. Currently this requires fully vaccinated domestic travelers to self-monitor for symptoms, wear a mask, and take other COVID-19 safety precautions when traveling domestically.
If a UMB traveler has an approved medical or religious vaccination exemption, they must follow CDC guidance for non-vaccinated travelers. This requires that they self-monitor for symptoms, wear a mask, and take other COVID-19 safety precautions when traveling domestically. In addition, non-vaccinated domestic travelers must be tested one to three days before travel and tested within three to five days upon return. They must self-quarantine for seven days if tested or self-quarantine for 10 days if not tested for COVID-19.
