Join UMB Student Affairs for a series of social events and workshops welcoming new and continuing students to the University.


Whether you're a continuing student or brand new to the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), Student Affairs would like to welcome you with a series of exciting on-campus, hybrid, and virtual events.

Featured UMB Welcome Events

Monday, Aug. 30: Join us for a Movie Night featuring the award-winning film Minari, a tender and sweeping story that follows a Korean-American family to an Arkansas farm in search of their own American Dream. This event is on campus and limited to 120 guests. 

Tuesday, Sept. 2: Find Your UMBFF at our virtual “speed friending” event. This is a fun and fast-paced way to meet and connect with future friends across all UMB schools and programs. This event is being held virtually over Zoom and is co-sponsored by the University Student Government Association (USGA).

Friday, Sept. 3: Explore Baltimore's wild side and meet over 130 different species of animals during a trip to the Maryland Zoo. Afterward, the group is heading to R. House, a local food hall, for lunch. Admission and bus transportation is provided to the zoo and to R. House. Students also have the option of arriving in their own car. Zoo tickets are free and limited to 120 students. This event is also co-sponsored by USGA.

Thursday, Sept. 9: Celebrate the opening of the newly renovated UMB Student Affairs suite, the new Student Counseling Center (SCC) suite, and the new Intercultural Center. All students, faculty, and staff are invited! The ceremony will be held on campus and will also be livestreamed. On-campus attendance is limited to 85 guests, but an unlimited number can watch via the livestream on the UMB Student Affairs Facebook page.

Thursday, Sept. 9: Up for a team challenge? Join us for our annual Trivia Night! Register a team of up to five members or register solo to get placed in a group. Trivia questions are based on pop culture, music, Baltimore, UMB, and more! This event is being held on campus and attendance is limited to 100 guests.

Friday, Sept. 10: Celebrate the start of the fall semester at Fall Fest. This fun-filled event is a great way for UMB students to discover the many ways to get involved on campus. This event is being held on campus and virtually.

This year we have over 15 events to help students meet new friends, engage in thoughtful dialogues, find their place in the campus community, and get to know the services available to them. From large events to small gatherings, there's something for everyone.
